What does “Every Student Succeeds” mean for LA Children?

Leaders with Vision will host a panel of the education stakeholders to present to the parents and other concerned people what their views of ESSA can do for Louisiana Children , this Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Drusilla Place in Baton Rouge, LA .

The federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), provides possible changes in the state’s method for rating school performance and outlines the annual process local school systems will complete in applying for federal funding.  ESSA addresses;

§          Raise fundamental expectations for what it means to earn an “A” in              Louisiana.
§          Measure and reward academic growth for all students.
§          Reduce state, district, and school-based testing.
§          Invest in partnerships to improve the most struggling schools.

2016 Mayoral Runoff on 11-17-2006 CANCELLED

As you all were made aware, invitations were sent to the candidates for
the Mayor-President prior to the primary, as announced at the October
20th LWVision luncheon.

On November 10th after 2 pm, Bodi White declined to participate in next week’s mayoral debate. As a non-partisan organization, Leaders with Vision cannot host a debate forum and/or town meeting with Sharon Western Broome ALONE, who DID accept the LWVision invitation. Forum 35 has decided to host Sharon Western Broome, since Bodi White cancelled on them as well.

Because of the late notification by ONE of the candidates and the fact that planning an effective alternative event with interesting speakers takes a lot of time, therefore, given such short notice the LWVision regrets that the November 17th debate luncheon must cancelled.

Our next event will be in January. If you have any ideas or suggestions for a topic for that public policy forum, please email them to lwvision@lwvision.org

Enjoy your holidays as we have much for which to be thankful and don’t forget to VOTE on DECEMBER 10th and to mail in your Annual Membership DUES.
See www.lwvision.org for details.

Together, we are…..
Building a better and more informed community,
